Thank you for such a good articles. It's very important to know this information when you are traveling. I would like also to add some cost saving travel tips for travelers when they are searching a nice hotel to stay in:
* When checking in, ask for someone to carry your luggage. This person will check your room and, if it is not acceptable, help you to move to another room.
* Your room should never be next to a landing or have more than two means of egress. Once I stayed in Prague hotels in a room with two French doors, a sliding glass door, bathroom window, and two side doors to adjoining rooms, on ground level. I was looking on the floor for a trap door!
* Rooms by an elevator are safer than those at the end of the hall. The third to sixth floors are the safest. Fire ladders might not reach higher.
* One problem firefighters have when a high-rise hotel catches fire is finding the occupants. If you are trapped in your room, put shaving cream or soap on the window, then draw the curtain.
* Leave your key next to your bed so that if you must leave your room during an emergency alarm, you can bring the key with you to regain access. After such an alarm, the front desk will be busy verifying occupants with limited night staff.
* Electronic keys are the most secure. The codes are changed after each traveler, and also leave details of all entry.
* Carry a rubber doorstop in your suitcase next time you travel. Putting it behind the door will deter someone from entering your room.
* Many incidents at hotels happen in the parking garage. Ask for an escort.
